Leonardo Rocchetto Coelho

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2004). He completed his Ph.D. in Sciences (Microbiology) in 2008 and his first postdoctoral fellowship in 2009, both at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He was a Visiting Professor at the Bacterial Molecular Biology Laboratory in the Department of Medical Microbiology at the Institute of Microbiology Prof. Paulo de Góes (IMPG) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) between 2009 and 2011. Subsequently, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the same laboratory and is currently an Assistant Professor at IMPG/CCS/UFRJ (Headquarters).

He has experience in Medical Microbiology, with an emphasis on Bacterial Molecular Biology, focusing mainly on the following topics: Genetic and Molecular Mechanisms involved in the Pathogenesis of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA); Studies on the genetic and molecular mechanisms involved in the emergence and clonal dissemination of Staphylococcus pseudintermedius strains of animal and human origin.
