Microorganisms are everywhere, and for this reason, the work of the microbiologist is desired in various sectors, which translates into numerous possibilities for entering the job market.
The microbiologist can work in industrial, clinical, or scientific research laboratories. In the industrial sector, this professional is needed in the area of microbiological quality control, industrial production processes, product development, or final product analysis, whether in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food, disinfectants, sterilizers, among others. They can also oversee industrial processes involving biological products and microorganisms, such as fermentation processes, biotechnology, and vaccine production, for example. In the clinical field, they typically work in laboratories focused on diagnosing infections, checking antimicrobial susceptibility, and identifying high-risk resistance profiles, making this professional also valuable for controlling hospital infections and epidemiological monitoring. In research, the possibilities are endless, ranging from basic to applied research, whether in bacteriology, mycology, virology, immunology, cell and molecular biology, environmental microbiology, medical microbiology, industrial microbiology, veterinary microbiology, and more. Microbiology research is valuable in multidisciplinary approaches, integrated with fields such as infectious diseases, sanitary and production engineering, nanotechnology, biotechnology, and many others.
New times have placed us ahead of new challenges to ensure the future of humanity. The production of alternative sources of energy and food, as well as methods of environmental pollution control and water supply purification, are priority and strategic areas, and they are directly related to microbiology.
It was with this high demand for professionals with solid training in various areas of Microbiology and Immunology that we structured the Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences: Microbiology and Immunology, as well as the graduate courses in Sciences (Microbiology) and Immunology and Inflammation.
