The Institute develops professionals of high technical-scientific and intellectual standards and fosters, in them, scientific thinking aligned to the needs of Brazil.
The Institute encourages the development of extension projects aimed at the dissemination and popularization of science, making Microbiology accessible to all segments of society. Various researchers work in such projects and today there are projects of recognized merit for the lay public, for children and for high school students. We also support projects for the public in general, as well as professional courses and courses along the lines of the research themes at the Institute.
An important goal of the Institute is to stimulate partnerships with companies from the public and private sectors, so that together we can find solutions for scientific and social development of Brazil through research based on innovative technology. The institute has filed national and international patents in partnerships with the productive sector, which has led to the development of new products and processes based on microbiology. In addition, we have partnerships with Redetec and Sebrae, which are Brazilian agencies to support start-ups.
The Institute is open to new contacts and alliances through agreements, partnerships and consultancies, under Brazilian law and the Statute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
